I live and work in Cockermouth, Cumbria. My childhood was spent on the East Coast of America and I believe the work reflects that and my environment now. After returning to England I studied at Camberwell School of Art and Design and later in married life I studied at Carlisle Art College in Cumbria.
Having a background of working as a painter, I then progressed to making my own pulp which is made from macerating and beating rags and half prepared linen, cotton and hemp etc. The fascination comes from the endless possibilities when forming sheets in the age old tradition of manipulating the pulp before it becomes paper either for casting forms or relief work on canvas. Most of the work is under glass or Perspex for protection and the pulp is internally sized for strength and endurance.
